Mazda's Skyactiv technology is an innovative automotive engineering strategy designed to create a unique feeling of symbiosis with the road. Based on an ancient Japanese principle called Jinba Ittai, in which the horse and rider become one, Skyactiv technology creates a natural and intuitive connection between the vehicle and the driver. With all Skyactiv components working together seamlessly, you also benefit from substantial fuel economy, improved safety and low emissions. To create the drive you want, day after day.
The 2.5L Skyactiv-DRIVE engine features a very high compression ratio to optimize fuel economy, as well as more low- and mid-range torque than conventional gasoline engines.
The 2.0L Skyactiv-DRIVE engine produces more low- and mid-range torque, while achieving lower fuel consumption and emissions than our previous 2.0L engine. A high-pressure six-port fuel injector prevents fuel from heating up, to improve combustion efficiency.
Having the world's lowest compression ratio for a diesel engine, the 2.2L Skyactiv-D twin-turbo was developed to meet emissions regulations. To lower these emissions, the engine uses a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system with urea injection combined with a NOx storage catalyst that converts nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen. Equipped with two sequential high-efficiency turbochargers, the Skyactiv-D provides smooth, direct response and superb acceleration.
The 2.0L and 2.5L Skyactiv-G engines enhance everyday driving by delivering more mid- and low-end torque, lower fuel consumption and fewer emissions than our previous gasoline engines; fuel efficiency and torque are increased by 15%. The cylinder deactivation system is available for 2.5L engines on select models.
The transmission is the cornerstone for a driver, as it is the one that gives them immediate control of their vehicle. Skyactiv transmissions are custom-made to work in harmony with Skyactiv engines and are specifically designed to deliver the extraordinary responsiveness characteristic of the Jinba Ittai. Skyactiv transmissions are also developed to improve fuel economy.
As part of Skyactiv Vehicle Dynamic Control, G-Force Vector Control (GVC) compensates for the effect of g-force on the driver and passengers to enhance the Jinba Ittai feeling. Mazda studies the biomechanical relationship between the human body and the vehicle to refine engineering systems and optimize a smooth interaction between them. Whether cornering or driving in a straight line, fewer adjustments to the steering wheel are required and acceleration affects the driver and passengers less. The vehicle behaves according to the driver's expectations, making the driver more confident and reducing g-force fatigue.
With the Jinba Ittai philosophy in mind, we designed the body and chassis to optimally match each other. First of all, we drastically reduced the weight compared to our previous models, and used ultra-high-strength steel so that our vehicle platform enhances the responsiveness of the Skyactiv engines and transmissions, while helping to make driving safe and enjoyable.
